HANGING BACK

The following limitations are usually at the origin of this swing characteristic.

Any Hip Rotation Mobility Dysfunction, whether the player is restricted in their hips turning away from the target [so they sway during the backswing and get stuck there] or they are limited turning towards the target and don't shift to the lead leg at all, both reasons can cause them to Hang Back.

Positive Tests: “Pelvic Rotation”, Seated and Prone Hip Rotation.

Reduced overall spinal flexibility and mobility (more so rotation when lower body is stabilised), muscular imbalance, fascial and musculoskeletal restrictions/adhesions in upper body, etc.

Positive Tests: “Seated Trunk Rotation”, “Torso Rotation".

Insufficient weight shift: A lack of strength/power (trail hip/leg), a weight bearing Rotation/Extension or Flexion Motor Control Dysfunction (lead hip) is often times the reason for a player to avoid loading the lead leg during the downswing.

Positive Tests: “Lower Quarter Rotation” , “Single Leg Balance”, “Bridge w/ Leg Extension

A core Stability and Motor Control Dysfunction (weak core) can be at the origin of this swing deficiency, sufficient core stabilisation is needed in order to do a proper weight shift.

Positive Tests: “Bridge w/ Leg Extension”, Passive Lumbar Lock Extension/Rotation, Half Kneeling Narrow Base Test.

MAY WE HELP YOU?

Postureffect programs are designed to help increase your mobility, stability and balance by decreasing amongst others, fascial and musculoskeletal restrictions, dysfunctional patterns of movement (ex. scapulothoracic rhythm), adhesions and musculoskeletal imbalance (ex. upper and lower crossed syndrome).

In order to offer you a more complete, functional and wholistic treatment plan, we partner with like-minded Medical Practitioners, Golf Professionals and Physical Trainers that are able to focus on the aspects that need to be addressed but we don't specialise in.
